RAWALPINDI – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Army Chief, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir wrapped up separate diplomatic visits aimed at advancing efforts to end the United States-Iran conflict, with Field Marshal Asim Munir leaving Tehran and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif returning from Turkiye on Saturday. Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir met Iran’s leadership and peace negotiators during a three-day visit to Tehran, Pakistani military statement said on Saturday.
Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, NI (M), HJ, and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi along with the delegation concluded a three-day official visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran on Saturday.
During the visit, the Field Marshal called on the President of Iran, Dr Masoud Pezeshkian and held separate meetings with Speaker of the National Assembly Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, and Commander of Khatam ul Anbiya Headquarters Major General Ali Abdollahi.
According to a press release issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the discussions were focused upon bringing sustainable peace to the region, with particular emphasis on the evolving regional security environment, ongoing diplomatic engagements, and collaborative measures aimed at promoting enduring peace and stability in the region.
The Field Marshal underscored the need for dialogue, de-escalation, and peaceful resolution of outstanding issues through sustained diplomatic engagements.
The Field Marshal expressed deep appreciation for the warm hospitality extended by the Iranian leadership and the people of Iran.
He conveyed sincere regards and best wishes from the President, the Prime Minister, and the people of Pakistan to the Iranian leadership, reaffirming Pakistan’s desire to further strengthen the historic and brotherly ties between the two countries.
The visit reflects Pakistan’s unwavering resolve to facilitate a negotiated settlement to the Middle East conflict and to promote peace, stability, and prosperity in the region.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi called on Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif in Lahore today and congratulated him on the successful visits to Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkiye.
During the meeting, Mohsin Naqvi also briefed the Prime Minister on the current situation in the country and provided updates on his recent diplomatic visits.
Those talks ended without agreement, and a ceasefire is due to expire on April 22.
But diplomacy has continued, with Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif, visiting Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkiye to push the peace process.
His three-country trip concluded on Saturday, with Sharif and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar departing a diplomacy forum in Antalya, according to statements from both officials.
“I leave Antalya [Turkish city] with fond memories and a renewed commitment to further strengthening the enduring fraternal bonds between our two nations, and to continuing our close cooperation to advance dialogue and diplomacy for lasting peace and stability in the region,” Sharif posted on X.
Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, Saturday, departed for Pakistan from Antalya, Turkiye, after successfully concluding his visits to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Turkiye.
At Antalya airport, the prime minister and his delegation were seen off by senior Turkish officials, including Ambassador Tolga Bermek, Ambassador Nilufer Kaygisiz, Member of Parliament Burhan Kayaturk and Pakistan’s Ambassador to Turkiye Yousaf Junaid, PM Office Media Wing said in a press release.
During the three-day visit, the prime minister held high-level meetings with the leadership of all three brotherly countries. He also interacted with the global leaders participating in the Antalya Diplomacy Forum.
Discussions during the visit focused on strengthening bilateral ties, Pakistan’s efforts to promote regional peace and key regional and global developments.
The Pakistani delegation accompanying the prime minister included Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, Special Assistant to PM Tariq Fatemi and Prime Minister’s spokesperson for international media Musharraf Zaidi.
