ISLAMABAD – Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reassured the Iranian President of Pakistan’s firm commitment to regional peace on Saturday and said that Pakistan would continue its sincere and honest endeavours to promote regional peace and security.
PM Sharif was talking to Iranian president Dr Masoud Pezeshkian, on phone late Saturday. During their warm and cordial conversation that lasted fifty minutes, the two leaders had a detailed exchange of views on the current regional situation and ongoing efforts to promote peace and stability in the region.
He appreciated the participation of the high-level Iranian delegation in the talks held in Islamabad on 11-12 April 2026.
He also welcomed Iran’s decision to send a delegation led by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to Islamabad, that held important meetings earlier Saturday including a detailed two-hour meeting with the prime minister. While sharing with the Iranian President an overview of his recent diplomatic outreach to a number of world leaders, the prime minister emphasised that these interactions had been helpful in building broader consensus in support of sustained dialogue and diplomacy aimed at achieving lasting peace in the war-affected region. The prime minister also expressed appreciation for the fruitful discussions conducted by the Iranian leadership with Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir during his recent visit to Tehran earlier this month.
President Pezeshkian thanked the Prime Minister, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar for their significant contribution to the peace efforts.
While expressing Iran’s desire for peace, he also expressed confidence that the fraternal ties between Iran and Pakistan would continue to strengthen and expand in the future.
The prime minister conveyed his respectful greetings and regards to the Supreme Leader, His Eminence Ayatollah Mojtaba Khamenei. Both leaders agreed to continue their close coordination.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday said he and Foreign Minister of Iran Abbas Araghchi had most warm and cordial exchange of views on the current regional situation. The prime minister emphasised on the importance of dialogue and diplomacy for the peace and stability in the region and beyond. In a post on X, he said, he was pleased to meet Seyed Abbas Araghchi, Foreign Minister of Iran, and his delegation in Islamabad. “We discussed matters of mutual interest, including the further strengthening of Pakistan–Iran bilateral relations,” he added.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi along with his delegation, Saturday, called on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif at the PM’s House.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, along with Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, were also present during the meeting, the PM Office Media Wing said in a press release. During the meeting, discussions were focused on the regional situation.
Also, Iranian Foreign Minister Dr. Syed Abbas Araghchi here on Saturday met Chief of Army Staff (COAS) and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir during his visit to Islamabad.
Matters of mutual interest and the overall regional situation came under discussion during the meeting. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and National Security Adviser Asim Malik were also present in the meeting.
Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Saturday, reiterated that Pakistan was facilitating Iran-US talks for achieving peace and stability in the region and beyond and it would continue with its efforts in this regard.
The DPM/FM held a meeting today to review the latest developments in the region, the Foreign Office Spokesperson said in a press release.
Dar also underlined that Pakistan’s official policy statements on the Iran-US facilitation process were only those issued by official sources.
He said, unnamed Pakistani officials or sources, whether quoted in print or social media, did not reflect Pakistan’s official position.
He advised the print and electronic media to refrain from speculative reporting and focus only on official statements.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi late said he had a “very fruitful visit to Pakistan” – despite not meeting with US negotiators in Islamabad.
“Very fruitful visit to Pakistan, whose good offices and brotherly efforts to bring back peace to our region we very much value,” Araghchi wrote on X. “Shared Iran’s position concerning workable framework to permanently end the war on Iran. Have yet to see if the U.S. is truly serious about diplomacy.”
Soon after Araghchi posted his statement, Iranian news agency Farsna reported that the foreign minister arrived in Muscat, Oman, to meet with Omani leadership.
