More than 46,000 Pakistani pilgrims arrive in Saudi Arabia for Hajj

Pakistan’s pre-Hajj flight operation is continuing at full pace, with more than 46,000 pilgrims already arriving in Saudi Arabia, the Ministry of Religious Affairs said on Wednesday.

Pakistan began its Hajj flight operation on April 18. So far, 39,959 pilgrims have travelled under the government scheme, while another 6,673 reached the Kingdom through private Hajj operators.

According to the ministry, out of the government-sponsored pilgrims, 13,280 are currently in Madinah, and 26,679 are staying in Makkah.

“Over the next 15 days, an additional 78,875 pilgrims will be transported to Saudi Arabia,” the ministry said in a statement.

Officials also said that 949 Pakistani Hajj support staff and medical workers have reached Saudi Arabia to perform duties in different departments. The Pakistan Hajj Mission has also set up its main control office in Makkah.

The ministry said the mission includes departments for administration, accounts, airport reception, accommodation, food, transport, Haram guidance, call centre services, complaints handling, lost and found, wheelchair assistance, and media coordination.

“To provide health care services, 22 dispensaries have been set up in Makkah,” the ministry said.

Pakistan is expected to send more than 179,000 pilgrims for Hajj this year.
