Railway authorities on Monday partially restored the down track following the derailment of a freight train between Tando Adam and Wahab Shah railway station in Sindh, allowing train operations to resume at a restricted speed.
According to railway officials, trains are currently operating on the restored down track at a speed of 10 kilometres per hour, while restoration work on the up track is in its final stages and is expected to be completed within the next four hours.
The derailment occurred on Sunday when a coal hopper train travelling from Karachi to Yousafwala left the tracks near Wahab Shah railway station. Seventeen wagons derailed, causing significant damage to both the up and down railway tracks and disrupting rail traffic.
Railway sources said the accident damaged the track at multiple locations, forcing authorities to suspend train services and halt several passenger trains at different stations.
Rescue teams and engineering staff have been carrying out restoration work since the incident to clear the damaged wagons and repair the affected section of the railway line.
Wahab Shah railway station, located in Sindh’s Sanghar district, serves local and express trains and plays an important role in the transportation of coal and agricultural commodities.
