Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday reaffirmed the federal government’s commitment to working closely with the newly elected government of Gilgit-Baltistan to promote the welfare and development of the region.
The assurance came during a meeting with Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Amjad Hussain in Islamabad, where the prime minister congratulated him on assuming office and discussed matters relating to the region’s development, according to an official statement.
Shehbaz said the federal government was prioritising development initiatives in renewable energy, tourism, infrastructure, health and education to accelerate Gilgit-Baltistan’s progress and improve public welfare.
He said key federal projects for the region include a 100-megawatt solar power initiative and the establishment of knowledge schools to enhance educational opportunities.
The prime minister also announced plans to establish a Pakistan Easy Service Centre in Gilgit to facilitate the provision of public services to residents.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal and Economic Affairs Minister Ahad Khan Cheema also attended the meeting.
