ISLAMABAD: Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) has announced the closure of several major routes leading towards the federal capital from 11pm on Wednesday until further notice.
According to a traffic advisory, the M-1 Peshawar Motorway will be closed from Haroon Bridge, while the M-14 CPEC route will be blocked from Kani Bridge near Tarap Interchange in Mianwali.
The E-35 Hazara Motorway will be closed from the Hazara Interlink near Burhan Interchange, while the N-5 GT Road will be closed from Attock Khurd.
The Rawalpindi-Kohat Road will also be closed from Khushal Garh, while the Abbottabad-Hassanabdal Road will be closed from Jhari Kas Checkpost.
The closures will take effect at 11pm on September 23 and remain in place until further notice.
ITP advised motorists travelling from Islamabad and surrounding areas to plan their journeys accordingly, avoid the affected routes and use alternative roads to minimise inconvenience.
The closures come ahead of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest and march towards Islamabad scheduled for September 27.
The party has announced the protest seeking the release of its incarcerated founder, Imran Khan.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has warned the PTI leadership against proceeding with the planned protest, saying the government will enforce the law and will not allow Islamabad or the country to be brought to a standstill.
